Kaiser Notifying Nearly 30,000 Employees of Data Breach

Kaiser Permanente is notifying 29,500 of its Northern California employees that a security breach has led to the release of their personal information, names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers for Kaiser employees.

The company has offered a year of free credit monitoring. Offering a year of credit monitoring appears to many of us as a gesture that is a little too little -a little too late!

The obvious pattern of offering free monitoring services after data is compromised, as opposed to taking a proactive stance to protect employees, client and customer data, does nothing to prevent harm to those affected by such loss.
